The photo of a man and his wife having a meal in a restaurant has gone viral after the husband removed his “shammagh” (headgear) to cover a transparent window so that others could not see his wife, according to a website.
There are supporters of the man, and then there are some who described his act as “extreme jealousy.”
Others described it as “obsession with women.” Many felt it was a “distortion of public trust.”
Twitter users used hashtag, #husband_covers_his_wife_with_shammagh. It received 121,000 views on the social media site in just a few hours.
There are those Twitterati who feel that taking this photo is an attack on the privacy of this man and his wife.
Dr. Eizzuddin Al-Nimr, a professor Al-Qassim University, said that this behavior is a natural thing in a society which has a culture of protection. This is not an individual thing or a rare act.
“This is a habit. It is because of our religion and upbringing. I do not believe that this act was negative as long as it takes care of the privacies of individuals. There is no vice in it. We should respect the practices and traditions of each other,” he said. [arabnews]
